  • Job Opening: Associate Director of Public Relations
    a full-time role with Pattan & Co.

    Position Description
The Associate Director of Public Relations will oversee the day-to-day operations of cornerstone accounts and manage special projects. Reporting directly to the principal, this role co-manages the media relations and owned media teams, as well as a team of part-time associates and consultants. Assigned accounts will include cultural institutions, hospitality businesses, corporations, nonprofits, real estate companies and attractions. The number of accounts will vary over time based on size and scope.

At Pattan & Co., all team members support one another, each bringing a unique specialty to our collective expertise. This role will lead editorial and PR strategy across business, economy, government, politics, and hard news beats, while also advising on crisis communications as needed. They will be a key player from day one, and will have access to a diverse range of experience, relationships and skill sets to support their own client work.

A small portion of this role will be dedicated to company-wide initiatives, specifically overseeing our team training program. This program equips staff with our proprietary methodologies and best practices. The Associate Director will receive in-depth training on Pattan & Co.’s frameworks, principles, and standard operating procedures. After 6-12 months of hands-on experience using these methods, they will take ownership of training, refining processes and materials over time. Training responsibilities may range from 0-4 hours in a typical month, increasing to 6-10 hours during training-intensive periods.

The first 90 days in this role will include structured training, with the most hands-on sessions occurring in the first 30 days. The following 60 days will include bi-weekly, employee-led coaching and support sessions, providing opportunities for questions, skill development, and strategic brainstorming. The Associate Director will begin working on their assigned accounts immediately, with training integrated into daily client work.

In public relations, our weeks vary wildly. Deep dive strategic planning. Quiet periods of researching, writing and pitching. Overlapping launches. Grand Opening events, press conferences, breaking news cycles. Rest weeks. Holiday weeks. It’s part of the fun of the job, and it also requires publicists to be good at a lot of things—PR is so much more than just press coverage. At Pattan & Co., we balance excellence in creativity and execution with strong work/life boundaries and a 36-hour standard work week so we have the mental, emotional and physical energy to show up fully for our clients and each other.
